How do our traditions and norms influence the spread of Corona disease ?

The corona virus disease is a pandemic disease currently overtaking the world. It doesn’t discriminate based on gender, race or even age!

It doesn’t matter where you are in this world, developed and undeveloped countries both are affected. 1st world countries seem to be suffering more than anyone else. This just shows the severity of the situation and how serious this virus is. This virus causes respiratory disease which lead to difficulty in breathing and can cause serious health complications for those who suffer from other medical conditions.

There is no cure for this disease, which means the only way to avoid it is to not catch it in the first place! We must practice social distancing. Social distancing is a struggle in Libya and Chad and Niger. We have certain cultural norms and traditions that makes this very difficult.

For example, we neighbours and families visit each other often regularly and more so in special occasions, if there is a wedding or if somebody is ill, it’s a norml in our culture to immediately visit them. However, with this virus we must abandon these practices for our safety, we must protect ourselves and others by staying away from each other. Do not leave your homes unless for absolute necessity, such as buying food or medicine.

As mentioned developed countries are not coping and there is no cure, meaning that if it spreads in Libya or Chad or Niger it is going to be catastrophic. We must learn to adapt and put our social norms and habits a side and CHANGE them for the common good of the country.
