The tobou tribe is a minority ethnic group inhabiting southern Libya, northern chad, northeast niger and southeast Sudan. Although the tobou tribe is divided amongst different countries, the hold on to their culture, language and tradition. However, the tobou tribe do face major discrimination in these countries. Although, they should be citizens of these countries with full right that other groups enjoy in these countries, they are treated discriminatory, they are denied citizenships and therefore, they can’t access education and are not granted basic human right just because they are a minority. When you are a minority ethnic group in a country, you are often seen as less and denied rights because you are different and you do not fit in. This is very similar to what occurs in other countries around the word with minority groups such as gypsies etc. This is false and a discriminatory, all ethnic groups regardless of skin colour, language and tradition should be given equal rights and should not be favoured over one another. The tobou tribe remains in this situation and are still to day, denied basic rights and so they are not able to get the level of education and development they deserve. This sets them far behind and keeps them in this “trap” so to speak. Tobou must speak out and fight for their right and oppose ignorant views about the minority ethnic groups. The law should see all of its people as one and as equal. This is the only way the Tobou can move forward and develop as a nation.
